Phil Degruy is an underground legend in the guitar world and a true iconoclastic New Orleans master... Sasha Elliahna Durta is a New Orleans native, currently emerging as a stage-actress and vocal-artist in the Chicago-area... Phil and Sasha Elliana have been working as a duo now for approximately 3 years, presenting highly-emotive and unique takes on a wide-ranging repertoire touching on jazz, broadway, opera, Joni, new and old folk-and-pop classics and rarities, and occasional comic satire.…
The second set, starting at approximately 8:20pm, will be a first-time spontaneous creation by Mahmoud Chouki, Will Thompson, and Alejandro (Alex) Canales:
Mahmoud Chouki is a native of Morocco, and has become a true treasure of the New Orleans music world over the past decade, while also maintaining a busy international touring schedule. He will be bringing some subset of his Guitars, Ouds, Lutars & Banjos. Will Thompson is a Jackson, MS native, who was an active member of many New Orleans scenes for 25 years before recently relocating to take a full-time professorship at the University of South Mississippi. His axes are piano, keyboards, electronics and laptop-wizardry. Alejandro "Alex" Canales is a powerhouse player on assorted saxophones and flutes, with versatility across all classic and modern jazz, Latin and Caribbean styles, and who keeps busy as a bandleader, session-player and educator. This set will be completely improvised, captivating, creative and accessible to all music-lovers.
All-in-all, this promises to be quite a captivating evening of sound-sculpture, and all over by 9:30pm or shortly thereafter! Please do come, spread the word and bring two friends!
