The Broad Theater  welcomes renowned Javanese singer, composer, and faculty member of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Peni Candra Rini who will present a live score to the silent film, along with multi-instrumentalist Andy McGraw and local composer/guitarist Christopher Trapani. . Screening 3pm

Setan Jawa follows a poor man from the countryside who falls in love with an aristocratic young woman. The young man makes a deal with the devil so he can marry her, but when she learns of the pact, she sets out to negotiate for her husband's soul. Inspired by both Javanese mythology and German expressionism, Garin Nughoro's film is as mesmerizing as it is haunting: a contemporary vision working in elements of dance, masks, and pageantry from Java.

If you would like to be escorted to your car, please ask the Sheriff on duty. You may also park in the Auto Zone parking lot if they are closed. 
  • Our outdoor space has a variety of seating options such as benches, picnic tables, chairs, and stools. If you require a seat for health reasons or disability, please ask a staff member and they can provide you with a chair.
