Description
Dancers from the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) will lead an inventive movement workshop within the James Surls Nightshade and Red Bone exhibition, located in KANEKO’s Bow Truss space. Dance experience is not necessary. This workshop is for those interested in exploring various types of creative movement through interaction with the James Surls sculptures. (Recommended for those over age 14).
Dayton Contemporary Dance Company was founded in 1968 to create performance opportunities for dancers of color. Five decades later, the 10th largest modern contemporary dance company in the nation remains rooted in the African-American experience and committed to developing diverse movement artists on the global stage. Today DCDC is regarded one of the best contemporary dance companies in the US.
DCDC’s professionally trained dance artists come from all over the country. They’re renowned for their precision of dance execution, artistry, and connecting with audiences by emoting feelings that touch the soul. The dancers use their bodies as instruments to communicate and to elevate experience. One never leaves a DCDC performance unmoved.
