We share our shores with seals, but what does that mean now? What has it meant historically? Who are these amazing beings? Explore the cultural and natural histories of seals and our evolving relationship with them.
Join a panel of experts including Dr Andrea Bogomolni, chair of the Northwest Atlantic Seal Research Consortium, and representatives from the New Bedford Whaling Museum for a panel discussion and Q&A to delve deeper into how humans co-exist with seals.
“Relationships don’t just exist between people, but also between different animals, including different species like humans and seals,” said Dr Bogomolni. “We’ve been studying and learning from seals for millennia, and they’ve inspired not only stories, but also tools and strategies for thriving in the sea and on land. Our panel will be talking about the amazing influence these animals have had on science, art and culture.”
Dr. Bogomolni is a co-creator of the Seals and Society travelling exhibition, which is currently on display at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. It uses stunning photographs, custom graphics and up to date research to bring help viewers understand the seals’ world and our relationship with them. The exhibition is supported by the David P. Wheatland Charitable Trust and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
