Join us for this workshop on the basics of gathering seed in your gardens, and preserving the legacy of your treasured plants.
This workshop will focus on annual plants (those that grow from seed to setting seed in one season cycle). We will touch on gathering seed from biennials, perennials. The first part of the our time together will be a short lecture on growing for seed, followed by a walk through the gardens with Amy, to discover plants that have gone to seed, discuss what to look for in the garden, and gather seed.
From there, we will take our collected seed back to the Garden House, and work collectively to clean, thresh and package seed.
Each participant will take home several packets of gathered seed for your own gardens. Seed varietals will be dependent on what is ready to be collected, and ready. Seed packets (brown paper) will be provided.
Please be prepared to sit, stand, walk and move around on uneven surfaces and in a messy garden. Our gardens are still in transition, so there will be some very uneven surfaces as we move around gathering seed. I suggest long sleeve shirts to protect skin from any potential plant reactions, which are often unknown. We cannot be held responsible for any adverse reactions that occur from handling plants. Please be prepared to protect your skin in the event a reaction might occur. I wear long sleeves and gloves when handling plant material I am unfamiliar with, and around plants that I know to cause skin reactions.
Classes are held regardless of weather, and due to the nature of holding space and supply gathering, we do not allow refunds/cancellations, but you may transfer your ticket to another if you are unable to make the class.
We anticipate this class being approximately 2 hours.
Gloves (for protection, cleanliness) - please provide your own if you want to use them.
All supplies we use for cleaning and managing seed - that is property of Laughing Goat Botanical Gardens.
