Description
A Gathering of the Cape Fear Bonsai Society: The Elm Roundtable
Wherein Bonsai Enthusiasts Assemble and Revel in the Lore of Elms
Hearken, gentlefolk and noble keepers of miniature groves, to an account of the most splendid meeting of the Cape Fear Bonsai Society, that esteemed fellowship of tree tamers and wisecrafters. Upon the 21st of September, as the sun climbs high o’er the marshes and the river’s mist remains yet unsundered, all members and honored guests are summoned to partake in a convocation most grand, dedicated to the ancient and noble Elm.
The Call to Gather
Let it be known that the Truist Hall of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, shall ring with the voices of those who cherish the art of bonsai, and all—be they seasoned cultivators or sprightly newcomers—are entreated to bring forth their own elm bonsai, be it Chinese, American, or any species that bends to gentle hands. Whether thy purpose be to share, discuss, barter, or simply to display the fruits of thy labor, thy tree shall be most welcome.
The Roundtable of Elm
Upon a circle of sturdy oaken boards, all shall sit in fellowship, engaging in discourse both orderly and mirthful. Each soul may recount tales of triumph and tribulation in the shaping of elms, and wisdom shall flow as freely as the mead at a knight’s feast. Every voice shall have its moment, and all shall be heard with respect and good humor.
The Presentation of the Decade’s Progression
A most wondrous spectacle awaiteth: a learned member, Mark Rushwald, shall present a chronicle in images, showing the journey of a Chinese elm through ten long years, from sapling to mighty miniature. The actual living tree shall be unveiled before all, a testament to patience, artistry, and nature’s yielding to the will of humankind.
Commerce and Raffle
Should any wish to exchange, sell, or bestow their bonsai upon another, let them do so in the spirit of camaraderie. And lo! A raffle shall be held, wherein treasures and trinkets of the bonsai world may be won by fate’s fickle hand.
Bestowing of Honor
Let it not be forgotten: those who participate in discourse and display shall receive a symbol of honor, bestowed in gratitude for their service to our community and the greater bonsai realm. Wear it proudly, for it marketh thee as a guardian of the art.
Invitation to All
So, by oak and by elm, by root and by leaf, all are invited and encouraged to take part. Whether thou art a wandering guest or a stalwart club member, thy presence shall gladden our assembly. Bring forth thy trees, thy stories, and thy good cheer, and let us rejoice in the beauty and mystery of the elm.
Thus is proclaimed, with flourish and goodwill, the meeting of the Cape Fear Bonsai Society. May wisdom root deeply, may fellowship flourish, and may the Elm reign in miniature splendor!
The Gathering of Craft: The Chinese Elm Workshop
Harken, good folk! At the stroke of nine, as the sun climbeth in the eastern sky, the esteemed Hank Gross shall host a workshop most enlightening, wherein the mysteries of the Chinese elm shall be unraveled. From the hour of nine until the twelfth bell, all who yearn for knowledge—be they seasoned cultivators or humble novices—may join in this noble pursuit.
Let all know: those who wish not to wield blade nor wire, but prefer instead to observe in silent reverence, are most graciously welcomed. Stand ye by, watch and learn as art is wrought from living wood, and let thy spirit be enriched. Whether thy hands be idle or busy, thy presence shall lend honor to the day.
So assemble, both active artisans and quiet witnesses alike, and partake of Hank Gross’s wisdom as the elm reveals its secrets beneath patient guidance. See the link to register!
