Beschreibung
In an alternate version of early 20th century Scotland, the war is over. Duncan, with the help of his most trusted lieutenant, Macbeth, has triumphed over the rebel Cawdor - but his country is left battered, broken, and on the brink of crisis. So when Duncan's heir, his son Malcolm, proposes radical changes from the militaristic, autocratic system that has been the backbone of the country for years, Macbeth vows to take matters into his own hands. Buoyed on by a supernatural prophecy, grief for his lost son, and the political ambitions of his wife, Macbeth starts to tread a path that descends further and further into darkness and bloodshed. This scenic, exciting new production of Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy draws on aesthetics and issues from Weimar Germany to explore ideas of succession, tyranny, and what happens when individual leaders place their own ambitions above the needs of the countries they are supposed to serve.
