Aktie English Theatre Düsseldorf is a professional English-language theatre company in North Rhine Westphalia. Our mission is to bring artistically excellent English-language theatre to English learners and native speakers alike; to provide meaningful international cultural experiences; to facilitate cultural exchange; and to foster arts appreciation and artistic expression in students of all ages. ETD is committed to supporting the already vital and growing international cultural landscape of Düsseldorf through the arts. We achieve our vision by collaborating with international artists; programming a diverse season that includes new and developing work from local playwrights as well as European premieres of international plays; and by empowering our community through theatre workshops for adults and children.

If we look around the world, we unfortunately can still find historical and learned hatred between two parties everywhere. Despite this, we continue to hope that the useless sacrifices of this timeless prejudice will eventually be recognised. We advocate for and hold on to the idea that one day it may be triumphed. In this respect, ROMEO & JULIET continues to remain a relevant story and one that can serve as a blueprint for countless conflicts throughout time, not only globally and socially, but also within our personal lives.
Our performance of ROMEO & JULIET will tell the love story of two young women. The Kaiserpfalz Ruins are the ideal venue for this story, bringing its own history to the stage; evoking memories and depicting how the play’s theme of hate under the threat of love, has created physical alterations to the space. The audience will sit enraptured within the calm, powerful atmosphere of the ruins, to enjoy a unique summer evening.

Wenn wir uns in der Welt umsehen, finden wir leider immer noch überall historischen und erlernten Hass zwischen zwei Parteien. Trotzdem hoffen wir weiterhin, dass die nutzlosen Opfer dieses zeitlosen Vorurteils irgendwann anerkannt werden. Wir setzen uns dafür ein und halten an der Idee fest, dass sie eines Tages überwunden werden kann. In dieser Hinsicht bleibt ROMEO & JULIET weiterhin eine relevante Geschichte, die als Blaupause für zahllose Konflikte im Laufe der Zeit dienen kann, nicht nur auf globaler und gesellschaftlicher Ebene, sondern auch in unserem persönlichen Leben.
Unsere Aufführung von ROMEO & JULIET wird die Liebesgeschichte zweier junger Frauen erzählen. Die Ruine der Kaiserpfalz ist der ideale Schauplatz für diese Geschichte, denn sie bringt ihre eigene Geschichte auf die Bühne, weckt Erinnerungen und zeigt, wie das Thema des Stücks, der Hass unter der Bedrohung der Liebe, physische Veränderungen des Raums hervorgerufen hat. Das Publikum wird in der ruhigen, kraftvollen Atmosphäre der Ruine sitzen und einen einzigartigen Sommerabend genießen.
