Description

Amelia Island is famous for its million-year-old fossils including shark teeth, pectens (rare & elusive fossil scallop shells), and bones from megafauna like megalodons, mammoths, and giant beavers.  Artifacts from the Island’s long history as a fort, pirate hideaway, and commerce hub can also found, and the Island has even given up gold doubloons from a 1715 shipwreck!   In addition to these ancient treasures, Amelia Island beaches are known for their natural beauty and are full of modern riches in the form of seashells, wildlife, and obscure objects.

Walk the beach with the Fernandina Fossils team of experts to learn about all these Island treasures and then return to the Fossil Info Center to have your finds identified.   We'll help you memorialize your favorite fossil find as a meaningful souvenir in a 3d display frame with scientifically accurate ID cards or a memory bottle keychain.

This adventure includes:

  • an hour long guided tour on the beach with experienced local fossil expert tour guides which includes training in fossil IDs and hunting techniques to increase your chances of success;

  • all the gear needed to equip you for a fun and productive fossil hunt, including a take home eco-friendly beach bag, identification chart, a loot jar to store your shark teeth finds; and the loan of a geo-scoop hunting tool for the duration of the session (if you'd like to keep the scoop it is available as an add-on either as a rental or purchase);

  • post-tour identification & souvenir making session at Fernandina Fossils to identify and memorialize your finds. All fossils are identified and tagged with our ID tags. You can create your own personal souvenir, choosing between a museum-quality 3d display frame or a keychain memento featuring your Amelia Island fossils and embellished with gemstones, confetti, shells, glitter, and other fun supplies from the Fern Foss supplies case.

Take-aways from this experience include fossil-hunting skills, scientifically correct ID labels for all of the fossils you found, a fossil hunting kit, a custom memento, great memories, and all the info you need for additional self-guided adventures.
