Description

"Byron Asher is joined by his 10-piece Skrontch Music ensemble to premiere a new suite of music exploring the Blues. Through new compositions, creative improvisation, and future-forward sound design, the new piece explores the historical impact of this Mississippi Delta musical form on the formation of jazz in New Orleans while teasing out the traditions of resistance embedded in the sounds of this deeply influential American music, from the Jim Crow era to the 1960s to today.

Byron Asher's Skrontch Music is a 10-piece large ensemble dedicated to new music that explores the histories of the formation of jazz in New Orleans through contemporary composition and collective improvisation. Featuring a diverse cross-section of New Orleans' creative music scene, the debut Skrontch Music recording was released to critical acclaim on New Orleans' Sinking City Records in October 2019."
