Description

END OF TERM CELEBRATION!

Katherine Menkens from A Round of Sound presents: Song Circles - Social Singing for Mums. These community singing sessions provide space for parents and caregivers to sing together as a means of connection and empowerment. There will be a focus on supporting the caregivers of children in our community, providing a time and place to feel upheld and uplifted through music making.

Collectively sharing in the joy of song making can help to strengthen bonds between individuals, families and cultures, and create space for greater understanding, learning, and inclusiveness within our wider community.

No singing experience is necessary and you are warmly welcomed into this space. Come along and nourish yourself through song making!

A ROUND OF SOUND

A Round of Sound - Community Singing and Musicianship
Director: Katherine Menkens
A.Mus. A, B. Mus (hons.), B. Ed (UQ), MA (Liszt Academy, Hungary).

A Round of Sound is directed by qualified music education specialist, Katherine Menkens. Katherine's experience spans from developing school music programs, lecturing in methodology, through to delivering community musicianship classes, and facilitating choral music for all ages. Her philosophy of music and music education has been inspired by the work of Hungarian musicologist, Zoltan Kodaly. Kodaly espoused that all people have the human need and birthright be able to create and experience the joy of music making. The research is now very clear on the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and mental health benefits that music provides. To this end, A Round of Sound aims to provide an accessible platform for participants to engage in music for education, enjoyment, and social enrichment.

A Round of Sound hosts a number of music-based projects in Townsville, from house concerts, to enriching women's circles, as well as community singing sessions for parents and caregivers.

Song Circles - Social singing for you (& baby) has been the pilot project for A Round of Sound, and we welcome new families to share in the joy of community singing with us in 2023.
