A Round of Sound - Community Singing and Musicianship
Director: Katherine Menkens
A.Mus. A, B. Mus (hons.), B. Ed (UQ), MA (Liszt Academy, Hungary).
A Round of Sound is directed by qualified music education specialist, Katherine Menkens. Katherine's experience spans from developing school music programs, lecturing in methodology, through to delivering community musicianship classes, and facilitating choral music for all ages. Her philosophy of music and music education has been inspired by the work of Hungarian musicologist, Zoltan Kodaly. Kodaly espoused that all people have the human need and birthright be able to create and experience the joy of music making. The research is now very clear on the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive benefits that music provides. To this end, A Round of Sound aims to provide an accessible platform for participants to engage in music for education, enjoyment, and social enrichment.
To launch A Round of Sound, Katherine will be facilitating community singing sessions for parents in Townsville. These events are entitled Song Circles - Social Singing for Mums.
