Description

WED. JANUARY 15—SONIC RELIEF: HELP BYRON ASHER & LYDIA PELOT-HOBBS AFTER FIRE @ THE BROADSIDE (INDOORS) 7-10 PM  By Sliding Scale Donation

Wits End Brass Band, Byron Asher, C’est Funk, Doug Garrison, Martin Masakowski, Dan Oestreicher, Anna Laura Quinn, Brent Rose, Brian Seeger, James Singleton and special guests.

In late November, the apartment of musician Byron Asher and scholar Lydia Pelot-Hobbs suffered a devastating fire that destroyed or damaged most of their worldly goods and and products of their creative endeavors: instruments, computers, books, composition notebooks, manuscripts, papers, clothes, costumes, furniture, remembrances, etc.

In response, a tremendous outpouring of love and support from their friends and the community at large has provided them with clean up assistance, emergency funds, instruments, and temporary accommodations. Tonight we will continue in that spirit as many of Byron’s musician friends and colleagues donate their time and efforts to celebrate recovery, to thank the community for their contributions, and to raise funds to help Byron and Lydia put their lives back together.

The music will include a rare solo performance by bassist James Singleton, saxophone trios with Byron Asher and Dan Oestreicher with the ace rhythm section of drummer Doug Garrison and Martin Masakowski, a vocal set by Anna Laura Quin with guitarist Brian Seeger and saxophonist Brent Rose, and finish with a rousing set by the 20 piece Wits End Brass Band and a dance session with dj C’est Funk.

Additional support provided by the Jazz Foundation of America.
