Description
Join us at Mount Ida Preservation Hall for an evening that brings together two visionary artists: legendary composer/pianist Anthony Coleman and Albany-based poet and performer Matthew Klane.
For nearly four decades, Coleman has been a central figure in New York’s music scene, bridging the worlds of composition and improvisation, Uptown and Downtown, jazz and contemporary chamber music. A fixture of the groundbreaking Downtown Scene, Coleman appeared on Glenn Branca’s Lesson No. 1 and John Zorn’s Archery, both now considered avant-garde classics. His works have been commissioned by the Concert Artist Guild, the Ruhrtriennale, the Festival Banlieues Blues, and the Bang on a Can All-Stars, with performances spanning the Sarajevo Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Krakow and Vienna Jewish Culture Festivals. Coleman has released more than 20 acclaimed albums as a leader, in addition to appearing on over 150 recordings with John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, Marc Ribot, and many more.
Sharing the stage is poet and performer Matthew Klane, whose inventive and playful approach to language has made him a vital voice in the Capital Region's poetry scene. His books include Of the Day (Publication Studio, 2025), Hist (with James Belflower, Calamari, 2022), Canyons (Flimb Press, 2016), Che (Stockport Flats, 2013), and B (Stockport Flats, 2008). His e-book My is available through FENCE, and his debut record Too Little Too Late can be found on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms. Klane lives in Albany, NY, where he co-curates the long-running poetry and performance series Salon Salvage.
Together, Coleman and Klane promise an evening that blurs boundaries between music and language, structure and improvisation, delivering a performance that is both daring and deeply engaging.
