Set in a vibrant shtetl on the eve of destruction — the day before the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union — the film reconstructs an entire Jewish village from the ground up, capturing its spiritual, cultural, and emotional life in extraordinary detail.
The director commissioned a full-scale shtetl near Lviv, Ukraine, which became the last such set built before the Russian invasion. The film was praised for its authenticity, cinematography, and immersive use of Yiddish as a living language.
