In this fast-paced workshop, students will explore the foundations of stage combat and what it takes to perform a safe and effective fight on stage. Throughout the workshop, students will learn how fundamental acting techniques apply to physical and emotional conflict on stage as they explore basic unarmed stage combat techniques and terminology including falling, grappling, punches, and kicks. Students will also learn how actors work together to tell a dynamic and compelling story through the performance of a short fight scene.
Stage combat is a great way to improve acting skills, enhance physical awareness, and explore new methods of storytelling. It's also fun!
About the Instructor:
Lily Blouin has trained in stage combat and theatrical movement for over 15 years. She holds a BFA in Musical Theatre and M.A. in History from Western Illinois University, and is a certified stage combat instructor with Dueling Arts International. A performer, choreographer, and teacher, Lily loves exploring the intersection of movement and storytelling in theatre and the importance of play and improvisation in character development. She currently works as a freelance fight choreographer, intimacy coordinator, and musical theatre dance teacher, in the Quad Cities Area, and works as a youth theatre instructor for The Spotlight Theatre S.K.I.T. program.
