Description

Novice or experienced, Storycrafting Fundamentals will help you become the writer, storyteller, and creator you want to be. Four sessions, a lifetime of stories.

Join master storyteller Laura Packer for this four session deep-dive into storycrafting. Whether you are a novice creator or have some experience, this four-session class will help you develop new skills and hone the ones you already have. We meet on four Thursday evenings at 7p.m. Central (time zone change here) for 90 minutes. Each participant also gets one 30 minute one-on-one coaching session with Laura, scheduled for mutual convenience. By the end of this class you will have gained confidence in your storycrafting skills; understand how and why stories work; have several stories you are ready to tell; the skills to craft and hone more stories; an understanding of where to share them; and more. This class includes handouts, worksheets, live exercises, and more. Those who complete this class will receive a certificate of completion.

Topics covered will include and are not limited to:

  • What is storycrafting and why it matters

  • How to craft a personal, traditional, and scary story

  • Telling for kids, adults, and families

  • How to connect with your audience (virtually and in-person)

  • Story structure, beginnings and endings

  • Point of view and characterization

  • Sensory detail

  • Voices, dialogue, and physicality

  • What to do when you make a mistake

  • Finding place to share your stories

  • and more!

This class starts on February 19, 2026 and concludes on March 12, four sessions in all. Class size is limited to 12 participants because it is highly interactive and Laura wants to ensure everyone gets ample time for practice and discussion. This class is appropriate for people over 16, though do note that no tellers will be censored. "From Audience to Zeal: The ABCs of Finding, Crafting, and Telling a Great Story" (available from the instructor, in book sellers everywhere) is the recommended (though not required) text.

The stories we tell matter. Whether we are telling to kids, crafting a presentation for work, preparing for a concert, or something else entirely, what we say and how we say it is important.

Listening matters. When we listen to each other we find understanding and compassion we might otherwise have missed.

Storyteller, coach, and author Laura Packer has 30+ years of experience helping people create and share stories, listen to each other more deeply, and leading organizations and individuals to better stories and deeper self-understanding.. She understands the transformational power of storytelling and listening, and how they help us understand ourselves, each other, and the world.

In addition to her award-winning performance and writing work, Laura is an experienced coach and educator, helping people understand themselves, their stories, and their worlds.. Her coaching and teaching work ranges from storytelling to writing to creativity to social change and more, and has been described as "transformational."
