Description

Come paddle the water source that flows straight to most Charlotte faucets! Join us for a sunset paddle on Mountain Island Lake, the primary drinking water source for over one million people in the Charlotte region. This guided paddle from Gar Creek Access at Latta Nature Preserve offers a chance to explore the lake’s quiet coves while learning how our local watershed provides clean drinking water and what we can all do to protect it.

This beginner-friendly paddle is perfect for nature lovers, paddling enthusiasts, and anyone interested in conservation. The experience combines outdoor recreation with environmental education in a setting that’s both scenic and essential to our daily lives.

Special Instructions/Additional Information:

  • Parking is available at Gar Creek Access (limited spots; carpooling encouraged)
  • Portable restrooms may be available on-site; no running water
  • This access point is not ADA-accessible
  • Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in and prepare gear
  • This program is open to ages 12 and up
  • Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian

Refund Policy:

To request a refund, please contact Susannah Bryant, Marketing and Communications Manager, at susannah.b@catawbariverkeeper.org. Refund eligibility is determined based on the timestamp of your email request and follows the schedule below:

  • 8 or more days before the event – Full refund
  • 7 days to 25 hours before the event – 50% refund
  • 24 hours or less before the event – No refund

If you are unable to attend and choose not to request a refund, you’re welcome to consider your ticket purchase a donation to Catawba Riverkeeper.
