ALL ARE WELCOME. (No experience necessary.)
The spring equinox is upon us, inviting growth, but before we can flourish, we must let go.
How still can you be? How nothing can you be? What will emerge when you let everything you are die?
The clown is born of presence, of stillness, of waiting. The world around us asks for constant motion, but the earth we inhabit invites us to slow to a more biological pace. Join your Clown Mother and DJ Dave Basement for this 90-minute immersive event, where nothing is asked of you but surrender.
Please wear layers that are comfortable for both stillnes and movement. Bring a water bottle (refilling station available).
This event is part of a growing series, including i am your mother now: an immersive clown rebirth. If you are interested in hearing first about these and other future offerings, please join Anne Zander’s mailing list here.
Clown Mother (Anne Zander - she/her) is a queer, neurodivergent mother, clown, character creator and a "completely ridiculous... completely vulnerable" international touring artist whose two solo shows - "MOTHER" and "JUICEBOX" - have brought audiences to laughter and tears from coast to coast (BroadwayWorld). She will hold you in her (figurative) mother's embrace and allow you to melt back into yourself.
Dave Basement (David Wester - he/him) is a morbidly hilarious sketch writer/performer, professional film editor and certified "Genius of Comedy" (Portland Mercury) who is also gifted at sound and light design. His sonic and visual support will lift you out of the world you are familiar with and into a land without ascribed meaning.
PulsePDX is an ADA Accessible, mirror-free, club-lit, deeply inclusive dance fitness studio that is large enough for 50+ students! Their philosophy is that movement is for all bodies, ought to seem like a reward and not a punishment, should be fun and feel good, brings people together, benefits more than just the body, and is better with mirror balls. This event is not part of Pulse's offerings, but we stand with their mission and encourage you to check out their classes!

Mission Statement:
Le Why Not Productions embraces the intersection of the grotesque and the beautiful, the vulnerable and the powerful, the fringe and the familiar. Our mission is to dissolve barriers between audience and performers, shine laughter into the dark corners of the human experience, and create a space where these contrasts collide and harmonize through the art of comedy.
About:
Le Why Not specializes in live clown-character shows, where the absence of the fourth wall creates a unique, living audience experience. Our core principles - vulnerability, connection, precision and presence - are the cornerstones of our performances and classes, inviting our audiences and students to move from waves of laughter to profound recognition and back again.
Named after a quirky bar in a small French town with a dark but irreverent atmosphere, our company is inspired by the blending of cultures, the joy of crossing linguistic and artistic boundaries, and the ‘Why not?’ spirit that ignites playful complicity and laughter.
In addition to our live theater productions, we also offer classes in clowning and physical comedy. More than just a space to learn an art form, these classes will challenge your habits and inhibitions, push you to take risks, and create a space for self-discovery, play, discipline and liberation.
