Description

“We recently heard T Graham Brown perform live, and his powerful voice is as strong as ever,” said Sharon Brass, The Barnhill Center producer. “He still aces those high notes and he still charms everyone in the audience.”

Brown has recorded thirteen studio albums, and has charted more than twenty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Three of those singles became #1 hits: "Hell and High Water," "Don't Go to Strangers," and "Darlene." Eight more of his singles made the Top Ten list.

Those hits were in the mid-1980s when Brown’s songs were all over the airwaves. It was one of the most vibrant and exciting time periods in Country Music history, with Brown and other new artists springing up all over the place.

Before moving to Nashville in 1982, he had already found work singing advertising jingles for McDonald'sDisneylandBudweiser, Coors, Stroh's, Almond Joy, Sears, Dodge Trucks, Ford, Hardee's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, The Nashville Network, B.C.Powders, Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew and 7-Up.

In 1984 Brown began writing songs for EMI Publishing, and then joined Capitol Records for his own recordings. That was the start of his long-running vocal career, and he quickly became a radio star.

During the late 1980’s he was traveling over 300 days a year -- performing shows, visiting radio stations and promoting his records.

“I went on tour with Kenny Rogers, who was the biggest thing going back then!”, said Brown. “I was learning so much about the business and having the time of my life. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!”

His audiences continued to buy records as he continued to amass more hits. In addition to his own hit songs, he collaborated with Tanya Tucker for the smash duet “Don’t Go Out.”

While his singles were climbing the charts, Brown began a successful series of cameos in commercials for international brands such as Coca-Cola, Harrah’s Casino, Burger King, and Taco Bell.

As the 80s progressed into the 90s, Brown continued to flex his artistic muscle. He teamed-up with George Jones on several projects, including the 1998 CMA award-winning Vocal Event of the Year release, “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair.”

It was his gripping 1998 album, “Wine Into Water” that introduced Brown’s music to Christian audiences. This iconic song has been recorded by over a hundred artists, most recently by Loretta Lynn, on her critically acclaimed project, Full Circle

Brown joined Broadway star Carol Channing for a duet of "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree" on her 2012 album, “True To The Red, White, and Blue.”

He also recorded a duet of "You Are So Beautiful" with Lulu Roman (of Hee Haw fame) for her 2013 album. “At Last.”

In 2014, Brown produced his first-ever Gospel album, “Forever Changed,” that won a Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album. The disc has guest appearances by Leon RussellThe Oak Ridge BoysSteve CropperJeff and Sheri Easter, The Booth Brothers, Three Bridges, Jimmy FortuneSonya Isaacs, and Jason Crabb.

The “Forever Changed,” album also paired Brown with Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill for collaboration on the song, “He’ll Take Care of You,” that became a smash hit.

In 2021 he was presented the Lifetime Career Achievement Award at the JOSE Music Awards in Nashville.

“Today I’m having more fun out there now than I ever have,” said Brown. “I’m not out there chasing the hits. I’m just having fun.

“I’ve got a band and a bus, and I’ll keep taking the music to the people as long as God lets me. It’s what I love to do!”

The Barnhill Center
Built-in 1925, in the grand architectural style of Beaux-Arts Classical Revival, the Simon Theatre provided a splendid setting for many theatrical performances, film screenings and ballroom dances. The James Simon family commissioned Houston architect Alfred C. Finn, whose career included designing a number of prominent Houston buildings as well as the San Jacinto Monument, to design the theatre for the community of Brenham. Today, after a meticulous million-plus dollar renovation, the glamour and grand style lives on for future generations in the newly named Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre.
