BrasiNola
BrasiNola was born out of an idea to explore the funky, danceable sounds and rhythms of Brazil through the lens of New Orleans. Two places that bring vibes, culture, and depth to their music, places that are relatable but each with their own identity. Formed by core band members Ron Johnson (bass), Danny Abel (guitar), Eduardo Tozzatto (keyboards/vocals), and Fernando Lima (percussion/drums), BrasiNola primarily explores the music of 1970’s and 80’s Brazil, performing music by greats such Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Emilio Santiago, and Tim Maia, just to name a few, while also including elements of inspiration from New Orleans legends like The Meters, Allen Toussaint, and Lee Dorsey. To bring the full effect of what New Orleans has to offer they incorporate other amazing New Orleans musicians as well: Terence Higgins (drums), Alfred Jordan (drums), Steve Lands (trumpet), Brad Walker (sax), Weedie Braimah (percussion), Felipe Leite (percussion), and many others have joined the band in concert. The dance floor is always illuminated when BrasiNola plays, as they slip effortlessly from Samba to New Orleans Funk to Progressive Jazz. The band is something unique for the city of New Orleans’ music scene while also fitting seamlessly into the sounds the city is so familiar with and holds so dear.
