Description

Eric Thompson is a versatile drummer and teacher, with a long list of credits in performing, writing, and arranging in jazz, marching band and drum corps. His story begins as a toddler, where he appeared on the legendary Dr. Max TV show in Cedar Rapids at the age of 2. Eventually, a tour as “The World’s Young Drummer” led him to a Tonight Show appearance with drumming legend Buddy Rich. Later, he marched in drum corps with the Cedar Rapids Emerald Knights and Star of Indiana, as well as the Hawkeye Marching Band.


He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Jazz Studies, and lived New York City for several years, where he performed with his group “Guaranteed Swahili.” Since returning to Iowa, he’s opened his own teaching studio, and performed in bands including Local on the 8s, Equilateral, and many more.
