Description
Diving into the ocean of Firebird variants, master storyteller Megan Wells brings to the surface a mesmerizing mash-up of myth and fairytale. There are three sons and a father who cannot grieve, trolls, giants and a shimmering horse with a golden mane. A princess too, of course, but who rescues whom? Watched by an un-setting sun, a wolf and a firebird intervene to bring about a grand transformation.
About the Artist
Megan Wells has devoted her lifetime to theater, story, and healing arts. From the first community children's theater exposure at age 7, Megan has pursued a calling devoted to living narrative shared with living people. Achieving a bachelor's and a master's degree in theater, Megan worked primarily in Chicago as an actress, director, playwright and artistic director garnering a Jeff Award for direction in 1986. With a life shift demanding attention to healing, Megan entered the realm of therapy, community recovery, coaching and the power of story to heal trauma and unleash potential. In the corporate arena for a decade, Megan worked with Fortune 500 companies creating a branded process called Learning Theater which got folks on their feet practicing new skills in customized role-play scenarios. In 1990, synchronicity led Megan to attend the National Storytelling Festival which clarified and galvanized her passion! For 35 years, Megan has served on many boards, delivered story experiences, coached storytellers to empower their authentic creativity, and developed a hybrid of historical portrayals which weaves together history, theater, story, art, improv and healing. She has three Parent's Choice awards and is honored to be named an Oracle by the NSN Circle of Excellence. This piece, The Firebird, was developed in collaboration with Chicago Acappella, has toured as a solo show and lives on in Megan as a wisdom tale.
