Vox Obscura unites professional vocalists and instrumentalists in Southern California to perform cultivated concerts inspired by timeless sacred, folk, and art repertoire from a wide variety of early music traditions. Our programs are carefully curated to restore the exotic, diverse sounds of early music for a modern audience.
Description
Vox Obscura hosts The Gesualdo Six, featuring six of Britain’s finest consort singers, performing “Queen of Hearts,” a program of motets and chansons from the courts of Anne of Brittany, Margaret of Austria, Anne Boleyn and Mary Tudor spiced with short works from the present day. Gramophone Magazine described a recent performance as “Ingeniously programmed and impeccably delivered, with that undefinable excitement that comes from a group of musicians working absolutely as one.” Queen of Hearts” is a musical Who’s Who of great European queens as portrayed in music of the sixteenth and twenty-first centuries.
Works by Brumel, Josquin, Prioris, Mouton, and more!
