Cabot Arts is thrilled to announce the, Green Mountain Oldtime Workshop Weekend. Featuring a full weekend of dances, music workshops, concerts, and jam sessions at multiple venues in Cabot Village.

The event begins Friday with jam sessions from 5-7pm, a pot luck from 7-8pm. At 8pm Ernest James Zydeco Band takes the stage with a Zydeco Dance. Featuring Ernest James on accordion, the band is known for its high-energy blend of traditional Louisiana Zydeco and "foot-stomping" dance music.
On Saturday, members of the Moon Shells band, plus guest teachers, Matt Flinner. Jenny Monfore, Brendad Taffee, Nate Paine, and Karen Taylor will run instrumental and singing workshops. Workshops and Jam Sessions run from 12noon to 6pm. Evening events include a dinner break from 6-7pm, a teacher concert from 7-8pm, and a square dance from 8-10pm. Weekend camping is available.
The Moonshells are a New England based quintet featuring Brain Slattery, Maggie Shar, Laura Murawski, Molly Merritt and Charlie Shaw. Grounded in the Appalachian fiddle tradition, drawing on Louisiana, West Africa, and Eastern Europe, they create an exciting fusion of traditional oldtime stringband music with deep rhythms and joyful songwriting.
On Sunday, festivities continue in Cabot Village with extended jam sessions at Harry’s Hardware and the Willey Building Auditorium from 12-4pm.
The Green Mountain Oldtime Workshop Weekend is a project run by Cabot Arts to help revitalize fiddle traditions in Central Vermont.
