Welcome to Center Street Theatre. We are focused on providing inspirational and introspective theatrical entertainment to the local Utah communities. Through productions of classical plays and new works, we’re driven to promote social development and enrich Utah culture through the power of storytelling that theatre and the arts are capable of. Founded by two local college students, Center Street desires to provide a fresh take on performance by taking Utah to the roots of what makes theatre rich and profound, emphasizing the importance of good acting and writing in its productions.
Description
Following the death of her second husband, Bernarda Alba imposes an eight-year period of mourning on her five daughters, keeping them confined to their home under her strict control. As tensions rise and the daughters struggle against the expectations placed upon them, long-held resentments, desires, and secrets begin to surface.
Set in rural Spain in the 1930s, The House of Bernarda Alba explores control, repression, class, desire, and the devastating consequences of a world where appearances matter more than freedom.
Content Warnings: Themes of grief, death, emotional abuse, domestic control, misogyny, and suicide. The production may also include strong language, references to sexuality, and depictions or discussion of violence.
