FAQS
What is a Table Captain?
Table Captains are volunteers who act as mini-hosts. They organize a group (typically 8-10) to join their table - inviting friends, family, colleagues - and figure out who is bringing what. Table captains can also be volunteers who host neighbors they don’t necessarily know, who have come alone or with a friend. In all cases, the table captains help make everyone feel welcome and engaged.
Can I come alone?
Of course. While some come with friends, many attend solo. Hosts will help you find a seat and connect with others – it's a great way to meet new neighbors and make friends.
What should I bring?
Organizers will bring the tables + chairs + tablecloths. Attendees bring everything else: food to share, plates, silverware, etc and friends! If you are coming with a Table Captain, they will coordinate who brings what. If you are coming alone or with one or two others, bring enough for yourself, and something to share. Tables are usually 8-10 people. Table decorations are also encouraged.
What kind of food?
Check with your organizer for any specifics. Otherwise, bring what you would like to share - a homemade recipe, a local favorite, a special treat from somewhere else. Some cook, some pick up from nearby restaurants or stores. Just bring enough to share with your table, usually 8-10 people.
Are kids welcome?
Everyone is welcome – young, old and everything in between! Look for a kiddie corner that is usually arranged to make it easier for little ones and their parents.
Are dogs welcome?
These events are open to the public, so dogs are welcome to join in the fun, as long as they are on a leash.
