The Museum at the John Brown House, a Rhode Island Historical Society museum, shares the story of Rhode Island and the World to 1860 in a National Historic Landmark that John Quincy Adams once called "the most magnificent and elegant private mansion that I have ever seen on this continent."

Visitors will explore a global story through a local lens in a series of galleries pairing world-class collections and award-winning scholarship. Each room is crafted by working with authors who are among the nation’s best scholars, with topics including the establishment of colonial RI, the state’s role in the business of enslavement, and its earliest endeavors in the China Trade.

The Rhode Island Historical Society, the state's oldest and only statewide historical organization, is dedicated to honoring, interpreting and sharing Rhode Island's past to enrich the present and inspire the future.
