The New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble (NYSJE) is an internationally acclaimed American supergroup formed in 1994 that pioneered the "ska-jazz" subgenre by fusing the high-energy, off-beat rhythms of Jamaican ska and reggae with the improvisational sophistication of jazz.  Founded by saxophonist and bandleader Fred "Rocksteady Freddie" Reiter, the band was originally conceived in 1993 as a collective comprising veteran musicians from legendary ska acts like The Toasters, The Scofflaws, and The Skatalites. Known for their electrifying live energy, dynamic interpretations of jazz standards, and studio collaborations with a diverse array of genre legends, they maintain a prolific global touring schedule.

The focus of their music is a fusion that seamlessly blends bebop, dancehall, reggae, and traditional jazz standards and, as a group, are renowned for their energetic ska re-imaginings of classic pieces by iconic composers like Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk.

They have released over 15 albums across major ska and jazz record labels, including Spain's Brixton Records and Jump Up Record.

While the lineup has featured a revolving cast of premier New York talent over the decades, a contributor always includes Fred Reiter who is the Founder and bandleader and plays tenor saxophone, flute, and sings lead vocals. Come join us for one unstoppable groove.

Paul Kares is a nonprofit organization whose mission is dedicated to educating aspiring chefs or musicians, focusing on kids and young adults who show interest and passion for culinary and musical arts. Paul Kares will weave together how these passions could be the foundation for life-long career for young people who are not necessarily college-bound and how they can hone their skills to be a personal chef, sommelier, performer, or all the above. Plus, Paul Kares will get them the tools like musical instruments, knives, etc for the students who can’t afford them and will donate to school systems that need equipment for their classrooms.
