Hollywood Farm presents the Red Barn Sessions:

An intimate concert series inspired by music, summer nights, and gathering together on the farm.

Join us on May 24 for the first in a series of concerts of traditional and acoustic music at the Red Barn on Hollywood Farm, where rustic charm and beautiful pastures set the scene for an inspiring night of song and community. Accomplished guitarist Cory Seznec opens for Kate Knudsvig & Richard Hearn, who will play traditional Irish tunes in the barn. Bring a picnic blanket or chairs to sit on the field, where barn swallows fly and crickets strike up their own concert in the trees. Musicians -- bring your instruments to join in the session to follow!

About the Performers:

Somewhere between musical wanderer and ethnomusicologist dwells the artist Cory Seznec and his unique world. Cory traces the through-line across musical cultures with songs that let the past reverberate in the present. Cory’s fingerstyle guitar-playing is syncopated, polyrhythmic, cross-pollinated, and idiosyncratic. He also sings, plays old-time banjo, and wades in the deep river of American song.

Classical violinist and Irish fiddler Kate Knudsvig was born in Hof, Germany, and currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts, where she works as a freelance musician in and around the area. While studying at Eastman with Federico Agostini and later with Juliana Athayde, Kate’s artistic trajectory took an unexpected turn as she found herself drawn to styles of music apart from classical. She fell in love with Irish traditional music while attending the New England Conservatory and obtained a Master’s degree in Contemporary Musical Arts under the guidance of renowned Irish fiddler and educator, Liz Knowles. A touring musician, Kate is the fiddle player in the PBS supergroup Celtic Thunder and also regularly performs with one of their lead singers, world-renowned Irish tenor Emmet Cahill, as well as her all-female traditional music and vocal ensemble, Forsyth.

Richard Hearn is a dynamic accompanist based in Baltimore, Maryland. He got his start with Irish traditional music while living in Europe, and toured internationally with several Irish and Scottish music projects before returning to the US. He regularly tours with his trio, the East Coasters. In addition, he has toured and performed with internationally acclaimed musicians, including Billy McComiskey, Steph Geremia, Sarah Collins, and duo Jocelyn Pettit and Ellen Gira. Richard is the director of the Baltimore Irish Tenor Banjo Summit and the Baltimore Irish Trad Fest, Executive Director of the Baltimore Irish Music School, where he teaches tenor banjo and accompaniment, and has played at and been on the instructional staff at many festivals across the US and Germany.

Hollywood Farm

Hollywood Farm is a 125-acre fourth-generation family farm in the Broadneck peninsula of Annapolis, Maryland.

Our family specializes in raising grass-fed Katahdin sheep on over 60 acres of pasture, selling lamb online, at the Anne Arundel County Farmer's Market, and to local restaurants. We try to practice farming in a way that respects our animals, our land, and our history in this area. In 2023, we completed a decade-long transition from turf farming to regenerative pasture-based farming. Our peaceful fields and 55 acres of woods and wetlands sustain a diversity of flora and fauna, providing an important buffer for waters leading to the Chesapeake Bay. We host the Grow Annapolis and La Finca community gardens, which together provide over 70 families with garden plots on which to grow their own food, and monthly harvest donations to local food pantries. Hollywood Farm is also host to a talented group of bees managed by our award-winning beekeeper, with hives producing beautiful, golden wildflower honey — and a small flock of chickens and ducks laying pretty varicolored GMO-free eggs. We love to host farm tours and special events. Please see our farm's website -- hollywoodfarm.com -- for more details.
