Description
Butterflies are the poster child for insects - who doesn't love a butterfly? Tennessee's own beloved Dolly Parton certainly had a fondness for butterflies. She even sang about them and why not!? Butterflies are colorful and bring good cheer as they flutter through our world. Some are even well traveled. Similar to Dolly's metamorphosis from a country girl with her coat of many colors to a dazzling star, Monarch butterflies also go through many stages in their remarkable transformation.
The brilliant orange Monarchs are currently beginning their migration south, so be on the watch for them in your own backyard. It took researchers nearly 40 years to figure out where Monarchs actually go during their migration. Join Michelle Campanis, UT Arboretum Education Coordinator, and naturalist, Stephen Lyn Bales on Thursday, October 1st at 7pm EDT via Zoom for "The Secrets of the Monarch" as they pay tribute to Dolly Parton and her love of butterflies.
This October chapter of the First Thursday Nature Supper Club is hosted by the University of Tennessee Arboretum Society and the American Museum of Science and Energy. The program is free, but you must register to receive the Zoom link and a copy of the recording. Closed captions are available. Contact Michelle at mcampani@utk.edu for questions or registration issues.
