Description

Help us celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre!

Come experience the excitement of the Roaring 20’s at Brenham’s original 1925 show palace. That’s when vaudeville was king of entertainment, so Vintage Vaudeville will start our 100th birthday year.

This unique variety show features the 7-piece Savoy Rose Jazz Band, They specialize in music of the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s, known as the “The Jazz Era.”

Several additional acts will join the band onstage, reminiscent of early variety shows of the era. The fast-paced lineup includes lively Lindy Hop and Charleston dance numbers by Dance Force Productions.

You’ll be spellbound by Flight Risk, an award-winning juggling/comedy duo, and you’ll laugh out loud with Hall and Brass Comedy Team, similar to Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello.

Attendees are invited to arrive early and explore A Century of Simon Exhibit that will open at 5:30 pm. The exhibit includes The Merry Widow, the first movie ever shown at the Simon Theatre in 1925.

Several Model A automobiles will be on display outside the theatre, exhibited by The Brazos Valley Model A Club. In the Simon Theatre’s heyday, Model A’s were the most popular cars to drive to the movies, so guests will enjoy seeing these glamorous vehicles.

Birthday Cake will be served to all guests, and Roaring 20’s attire is invited.

The Barnhill Center
Built-in 1925, in the grand architectural style of Beaux-Arts Classical Revival, the Simon Theatre provided a splendid setting for many theatrical performances, film screenings and ballroom dances. The James Simon family commissioned Houston architect Alfred C. Finn, whose career included designing a number of prominent Houston buildings as well as the San Jacinto Monument, to design the theatre for the community of Brenham. Today, after a meticulous million-plus dollar renovation, the glamour and grand style lives on for future generations in the newly named Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre.
