An Intro to Props and Set Dec— Workshop Leaders

Jay Robertson has been a property master in film and television for 35 years, accumulating 225 credits of episodic television, and over 40 features. He has worked across Canada, in the United States, and Ireland, with the likes of Russell Crowe, Jamie Foxx, and Nic Cage.

Dan Crozier is a 20-year veteran of the Saskatchewan Film & TV industry. After beginning his career as a Writer Apprentice on The Risen, a feature film shot in Moose Jaw, Dan continued to explore the local film industry, taking jobs in the Locations Dept on Tideland and The Messengers, and in the Set Dec Dept on Just Friends, Android Apocalypse, The Velvet Devil, and Corner Gas. Dan found his niche in 2006, in the Props Dept on Corner Gas, training under local prop master Jay Robertson. Dan & Jay have remained Saskatchewan’s preeminent Props team ever since.

Carolyn Harris has over 20 years of film and television production experience and has worked in various departments but now focuses on the art department, specifically set decoration. Having experience in several departments over the years has given her a broader sense of the bigger picture with focus on the “little things” that make a shot great. Carolyn has art directed and/or set decorated TV commercial campaigns including SGI, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, Westjet, Apple, and Sasktel; and created sets for Nicolas Cage, Jennifer Tilly, Ron Pearlman, Tyrese Gibson and Jeff bridges, to name a few.

An Intro to Props & Set Dec

Jay Robertson, Dan Crozier and Carolyn Harris present an introduction to two key areas of the Art Department:Props and Set Dec.  This comprehensive workshop is an essential primer for anyone interested in working in the design, acquisition or creation of the physical elements of a film or television production. Whether the production calls for wild west frontier towns, Victorian manors, or a high-tech future world, it is the job of the Art Dept to make sure that everything seen on camera, from the largest piece of furniture to the tiniest trinket, looks and feels appropriate.
