Description

The Space Between the Stars: A Concert by the Concerta and Ensemble Choirs of the Peninsula Girls Chorus

Prepare to have your universe expanded.

For the first time ever, the Peninsula Girls Chorus invites you on an extraordinary journey to the intersection of music and science. Join the Concerta and Ensemble choirs for The Space Between the Stars, an immersive multi-media concert experience held beneath the breathtaking dome of the Chabot Space and Science Center Planetarium.

This is no ordinary choral concert. Surrounded by the cosmos, you'll hear music reimagined through the lens of science — from the celestial to the quantum, the ancient to the unknown. The evening features the treble premiere of Elizabeth Alexander's How To Sing Like a Planet, and the world premiere of Bridge Out of Time — an electrifying new work commissioned by the PGC and composed by Bay Area's own Krys Bobrowski. Written for choir and electronics and featuring bold non-traditional choral techniques, Bridge Out of Time pushes the boundaries of what the human voice can do.

We are thrilled to welcome Rafaella Margutti, Associate Professor of Astronomy and Physics at UC Berkeley, as our guest speaker — bringing the wonders of the universe to life in words as our singers do in song.

The evening begins with a pre-concert appetizer reception, so come early, connect with fellow explorers, and set the tone for a night unlike anything you've experienced before.

What lives in the space between the stars? Come find out.🌟

Seating Note

Planetarium seats are reclined at an angle designed for viewing the overhead screens. If you are seated near the stage in rows A & B, you may want to bring a small pillow or cushion to help you sit more upright for a better view of the performers.

All ticket sales are final and non-refundable.

Peninsula Girls Chorus

Our Mission: The mission of the Peninsula Girls Chorus is to engage the hearts and minds of girls from diverse backgrounds through a comprehensive experience in choral music.

Our Vision: Our vision is that girls will live life more deeply through their involvement and participation in choral music.

Our History: Founded in January 1994 by Cathy Doyle and continuing under Artistic Director Karyn Silva since 2011, the Peninsula Girls Chorus has evolved from an organization serving just 11 girls into a premiere arts education and performance organization. The Peninsula Girls Chorus strives toward a high level of musicianship paired with sensitive interpretations of music from a variety of genres. In our quest to become global citizens of the 21st century, the PGC performs both locally and abroad. We provide a valuable resource to our local community through assorted outreach performances and we participate in prestigious domestic and international music festivals. In addition to musical benefits, the PGC offers opportunities for the development of leadership skills, higher-order thinking, discipline and self-esteem.
