Step back into the elegance, traditions & secrets of the 1930s for an evening of dinner, mystery & live theater. The Sting of the Barb is an original two-act holiday mystery written & directed by Humboldt County author Linden Tyler, winner of the North Coast Journal’s Best Local Author. Set during an elegant Christmas gathering in the 1930's, the story begins inside the Westfield home, where family traditions, old relationships, new arrivals & carefully kept appearances collide over Christmas dinner. Barbara Westfield is the formidable matriarch of a prominent family. She believes in proper manners, proper meals & doing things the way they have always been done. Her beloved grandson Christopher has returned home for Christmas, bringing with him a young fiancée who may not fit quite as comfortably into Barbara’s carefully ordered world as everyone had hoped. What begins as a festive family gathering quickly becomes something much more complicated.
Before long, questions are being asked, stories begin to conflict & everyone at the table seems to know a little more than they are willing to admit. By the second act, the warmth of the Westfield dining room has transformed into a courtroom, where family members, neighbors, experts & some rather unforgettable witnesses are called to tell their version of what really happened that Christmas Eve.
Part comedy, part courtroom drama & part classic whodunit, The Sting of the Barb combines the atmosphere of an old Hollywood mystery with the humor of a dysfunctional family holiday. And remember... In-laws can be a real trial.
Your ticket includes a complete dinner prepared by Ramone’s Bakery & Café. Dinner features salad, chicken entree, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, a choice of dessert, coffee & tea.
Cocktails will also be available for purchase throughout the performances , presented by the talented team from Speakeasy Bar of Eureka. ** PLEASE NOTE that the Sunday, November 29, 2026- 1pm Matinee performance contains no dinner. This is a "Sweet Encore" Dessert Matinee. Only Coffee, Tea, & Dessert will be served. The Pricing will be a special reduced price. General Admission: $35, Senior & Student Admission: $30. "The production is being staged at the historic Eureka Woman’s Club, creating an intimate dinner-theater experience where guests will dine only feet away from the action. The evening features an original cast of local performers, period-inspired costumes, a transforming 1930s set.
The Saturday evening performance will also be hosted by the Breast & GYN Health Project, an organization that has served people throughout our North Coast community for decades. Proceeds from every ticket sale will also benefit the Breast & GYN Health Project.
