Kate Heron, 2024 NPR Tiny Desk Top Shelf Highlight, is an indie artist based in Austin, TX. Originally from Chicago, IL, her voice and songs have quickly captured the attention of audiences in the Austin music scene. With a background in opera and film sound design, Heron combines her two skills by creating melodies full of "vocal acrobatics" and unconventional guitar playing to make sonic worlds that transport people the moment she starts to perform. Her sound has been described as "magical and beautifully haunting," "light but powerful," and "absolutely transcendent." She has one intention for her music making - in her own words: "I hope this makes you feel something."
