The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes

Gordon Boudreau makes his Wunderbar debut as the fictional Arthur Greenleaf Holmes, England’s preeminent sixteenth century libertine poet. Arthur fuses irresponsible humor with a deep love of language, poetry, and the humanities for an evening of convulsive laughter and surprising insight. Blending the profane with the elegant and the subversive with the illuminating, Arthur pollutes the evening with such pearl-clutching rhythmic upheavals as the euphonic “Ode to an Extremely Provocative Knothole,” the prepubescent lament “Mother, Will My Stones Drop?,” and his towering “I Built My Love a Menstrual Hut.” Forced to find its way out of a dark and dusty corner of the Smithsonian amidst a landscape of uninspired current pop events, news-feed minutiae, and a non-nutritional diet of cat videos, The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes fuses melodic language with an utter disregard for decent society. For everyone—from college professors to the noble laborer, the NPR set to the barroom biker crowd—comes an evening to delight the true pervert of distinction.

Gordon Boudreau (Arthur Greenleaf Holmes)

Gordon Boudreau is an actor, comedian, and the creator of The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry Of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes. He has spent a lifetime performing as a stage and street performer at renaissance festivals across the country. Gordy developed Arthur first as a walkabout street character who would lure unsuspecting passersby into a derelict alley to recite poetry of dubious value. This led to people of higher station but lower foresight giving him a stage to develop the act into what now convulses before you. In his wayward 30’s he performed standup and sketch comedy at The Comic Strip and Gotham Comedy Club in New York, but really, who hasn’t? He credits his love of poetry to his father, who taught English literature at LeMoyne College in Syracuse for three decades. When not on the road, he lives in Oswego, NY with his extraordinary wife, Sara, and two terrifically insured children.

"Some of the most deplorable imagery and malodorous language ever committed to the written page, and I feel it must be shared.”
– John Cleese - Actor, Comedian, Screenwriter, Producer

“It all feels like 75 minutes with the strangest literature professor at a small liberal arts college — the one whose classes always have huge waitlists. The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes is certainly funnier than anything on late-night television these days.”
—Zachary Stewart, theatermania.com

"Boudreau’s twinkling everyman persona, vocal heft and physical grace, enable him to captivate while tossing off outrageous vulgarisms, scatalogical references and old-time punchlines. (His) droll presence, consummate erudition and tremendous comic timing make The Wildly Inappropriate Poetry of Arthur Greenleaf Holmes, a grand entertainment."
