Who are we?
Communication By Captivation is both an in-person and online community of multimedia artists (from cartoonists to live performers) working together to create deeply meaningful storytelling.

You may have seen some of CBC’s recent Austin theater productions: Frank’s Life, Glengarry Glen Ross, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, and last year’s production of A Christmas Carol Against Humanity!

We welcome all those willing to challenge themselves to develop their ability to captivate the heart and soul of an audience; collaborate to tell stories bigger than any one person could; and through it all, have fun! We are completely self-and-patron funded and do not accept government grants.

Meet the Cast of The Wizard Against Humanity!

Victoria Butler as Dorothy

Victoria Butler is thrilled to be portraying the iconic Dorothy in this new land of Cahdz! Victoria is going her Junior year at Oklahoma City University pursuing a BFA in Acting and Minor in Education. Recently she's appeared on stage as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid and in the ensemble of Peter and The Starcatcher. She would love to thank her amazing friends and loving family for all of their love and support. She hopes you enjoy this wacky show!

Rebecca Johnson as Glinda

Rebecca Besherse Johnson is excited to be part of her second CBC production. She has been involved in several theaters in central Texas both onstage and in tech and production for over ten years. A former professional oboist, she has performed and taught music for over 30 years. Rebecca is the proud mother of six humans and ten cats.

Elena Maeurer as The Wicked Witch

Growing up, Elena developed a love for performing and took part in shows at various theaters around the Austin area. She followed that passion to Florida State University, where she studied music education. Back home in Texas, she now teaches voice and piano lessons to students of all ages. She’s particularly excited for this production, as it’s her first chance to get back on stage since she was a student. When she’s not teaching or performing, she enjoys art, video games, and doting on her roommate’s cats, Suki and Sokka.

Eliza Carey as Scarecrow and Stage Manager

Eliza Carey, originally hatched from an iridescent egg in Bozrah, CT, is a poet, singer, actor, and improv enthusiast with three years of experience making things up on the spot (professionally). Her performance journey began early with one-woman shows for her family that could last for hours—true required viewing. She was named Most Valuable Player at the inaugural Rise Comedy Cup in Denver and has been riding that high ever since. After her sketch debut at Flipside Theatre this winter in Colorado, she was officially bitten by the performance bug and dove headfirst into Austin’s theater scene.

With a penchant for parody songwriting and developing clown bits, Eliza is certifiably “technically funny.” She is thrilled to be part of Sterwurs Against Humanity and can’t wait to show you all what she’s got in store!

Bella 'Nic' Justis As The TinMan

Bella is super excited to be doing their third show in a row with CBC Theatre. You may have seen Bella recently in A Doll's House with Stage Presence Players, and Peter Pan Against Humanity And SterWers Against Humanity With CBC Theatre. They Would Love To Thank Their Director, Cast, And Their Little Car Bumble Bee.

Jacob Meadows As The Lion

In 2024, Jacob graduated from the University of Houston–Clear Lake with a bachelor's in psychology and a minor in sociology. His love for theater began in elementary school, performing as the lead role in multiple shows. In high school, he performed with his school's improv troupe and later rediscovered his love for theater in college with an 80s reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. As a big fan of The Wizard of Oz, Jacob finds this show a great opportunity, loving every minute, and hopes that his involvement in this production will help further his journey in the theater arts.

John Rodgers as Director, Sound & Lighting Tech, and The Wizard Against Humanity

John is a traveling English and theater teacher from New Hampshire who brings his storytelling passion and technical expertise to the production as Director, Light & Sound Tech, and The Wizard Against Humanity himself.

As the founder of Communication By Captivation LLC, John is dedicated to crafting immersive experiences, from live theater to animated content. With a rich background in the performing arts, he’s excited to blend his creative vision with the show’s chaotic hilarity. Get ready for a wild ride—John’s making sure it looks and sounds spectacular!
