The Wreckers, un concierto de la Orquesta Sinfónica Vallarta, nos cuenta historias con música.
El programa abre con la poderosa y dramática Obertura de The Wreckers de Ethel Smyth, una compositora inglesa extraordinaria y una de las figuras más importantes y fascinantes de la música del siglo XX. La historia se desarrolla en una comunidad pesquera aislada y profundamente religiosa en la costa de Inglaterra. Los habitantes se dedican en secreto a provocar naufragios intencionalmente. Apagan los faros o encienden hogueras falsas en los acantilados para estrellar los barcos contra las rocas y saquear sus restos, justificando el acto como un supuesto "derecho divino" de supervivencia.
Continúa nuestra travesía en Venecia con el emotivo y también virtuoso concierto para fagot de Vivaldi interpretado por Noé Rosas. Tomamos nuestro equipaje para viajar a Viena para escuchar la Romanza Nº 2 del Beethoven temprano a cargo de la virtuosa violinista Ekaterina Stolyarova.
Volvemos a Venecia para deleitarnos con el delicado concierto para mandolina de Vivaldi interpretado por Luis Alfonso García. Más tarde Noé Rosas regresará con la pasión del tango nuevo e interpretará Escolaso de Astor Piazzolla.
Para cerrar, compuesto en 1941 por encargo de Carlos Chávez, el Huapango de Moncayo quien integra tres huapangos tradicionales de Veracruz: el Siquisirí, El Balajú y El Gavilancito. La obra combina ritmos festivos, melodías líricas y una brillante orquestación que evoca la jarana, el arpa y las trompetas veracruzanas, una enorme explosión de color y alegría mexicana.
The Wreckers, a concert by the Orquesta Sinfónica Vallarta, invites us to experience stories told through music.
The program opens with the powerful and dramatic Overture to The Wreckers by Ethel Smyth, an extraordinary English composer and one of the most important and fascinating figures in 20th-century music. The story unfolds in an isolated, deeply religious fishing community on the English coast. Its inhabitants secretly engage in the deliberate wrecking of ships: they extinguish lighthouses or light false beacons on the cliffs to lure vessels onto the rocks, then plunder the wreckage—acts they justify as a supposed “divine right” of survival.
Our journey continues in Venice with the deeply expressive and virtuosic Bassoon Concerto by Vivaldi, performed by Noé Rosas. We then take our musical luggage onward to Vienna to savor Beethoven’s Romance No. 2 in F major, from his early period, performed by the brilliant violinist Ekaterina Stolyarova.
We return once more to Venice to delight in the delicate Mandolin Concerto by Vivaldi, performed by Luis Alfonso García. Later, Noé Rosas returns to the stage with the fiery passion of nuevo tango, performing Escualo by Astor Piazzolla.
To close the evening in grand style, we present the iconic Huapango by José Pablo Moncayo. Composed in 1941 at the request of Carlos Chávez, this masterpiece weaves together three traditional huapangos from Veracruz: El Siquisirí, El Balajú, and El Gavilancito. With its festive rhythms, lyrical melodies, and masterful orchestration that evokes the sound of jaranas, harps, and Veracruz trumpets, the work bursts forth as a dazzling explosion of color and Mexican joy.
