TITAN TO TACHYONS is an experimental jazz-metal group led by New Zealand composer and guitarist Sally Gates, backed by the powerhouse rhythm section of Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), Matt Hollenberg (Cleric), and Kenny Grohowski (Imperial Triumphant). The quartet instrumentally depicts the realms of Surrealism and science-fiction through eclectic and improvisational passages, juxtaposed by fluid grooves and metallic flurries.
Titan to Tachyons will join the Melvins and Napalm Death on tour in 2025.
Their latest album, ‘Vonals’, was released via John Zorn’s Tzadik records late 2022. Titan to Tachyons toured in support of the record, with US and European dates that included festival appearances at Big Ears, Sarajevo Jazz Fest, Prishtina Jazz Fest, and Jam Room Fest.
Vonals was recorded and mixed by Colin Marston at Menegroth, the Thousand Caves (Dysrhythmia, Krallice, Imperial Triumphant), mastered by Scott Hull at Masterdisk (Miles Davis, Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock), and completed with band photography by Naeemah Z. Maddox and cover paintings by Sally Gates. Tzadik Records released the album in September 2023.
Titan to Tachyons’ sold-out debut, Cactides was released on vinyl and CD through Nefarious Industries late 2020, with a pre-recorded live set sponsored by Orange Amps and premiered by Revolver Magazine in lieu of a release show.

Of innumerable bands that traffic in dissonance, the musick of Pittsburgh, PA’s Microwaves shears clean and hot as an oxy-lance through the defenses of even the most cynical noise rock aficionado. In this iteration of the band, which has been in existence now for 20 years, core members John Roman (drums, vocals) and David Kuzy (guitar, vocals) round themselves out with 2006 alum bassist/vocalist Adam MacGregor, and founding bassist/vocalist Steve Moore (Film composer and member of Zombi, Lovelock, Miracle, and more). Over the years, Microwaves continues to pick up the loose ends left by Voivod, MX-80, Snakefinger, and some of their own Pittsburgh-area “math-rock” contemporaries, twisting them into a Gordian knot that at once rages and confounds.
