Description
Theater on the Verge proudly presents TORCH SONG by Harvey Fierstein, running July 17–August 2 at Hamilton Studio in Spokane. This powerful, hilarious, and deeply human story follows Arnold Beckoff—a drag queen and torch singer searching for love, family, and acceptance in 1970s New York.
Originally staged as three one-acts under the title Torch Song Trilogy, Fierstein’s groundbreaking work took Broadway by storm, winning two Tony Awards (Best Play and Best Actor) and helping to define queer theater for a generation. Now known simply as TORCH SONG in its shortened and revised form, this play feels more urgent than ever. In a time when drag is once again under fire, Fierstein’s funny, tender portrait of queer life is a reminder of how much joy, resilience, and truth the artform carries.
This production is deeply personal for director Troy Nickerson and producer Chris Jensen, who have long dreamed of bringing TORCH SONG to Spokane. It’s never been performed here—and we’re beyond honored to finally share it with local audiences, especially those discovering it for the first time.
