Description
Welcome to the Fiction Workshop!
6 sessions - 7:00pm - 8:30pm | 5 student cap
Feb 12, 19, 26
March 5, 12, 19
We learn to recognize what is alive, interesting, and successful in our own work by discovering and articulating what is alive and successful in the texts of others. In this MFA-style workshop, we will develop craft techniques in fiction, as well as the skill of giving craft feedback. If you are looking to propel your work to a new level, this class is for you.
After an initial session introducing craft concepts and a practice workshop, students will submit and read one another’s work each week. Two students will be workshopped per session, and each student will be workshopped twice throughout the 6 week class. The submission schedule will be assembled in the first session. Work at all stages is welcome.
Students should be prepared to:
- Submit twice for workshop; submissions of ~10-12 pages
- Read two peer submissions each week they are not being workshopped
- Come to class with notes to discuss peer submissions generously, and in-depth
- Incorporate new craft concepts and develop their critical faculties
- Help create a supportive environment in which everyone has space and safety
