About "Your People Shall Be My People: Conversion to Judaism through the Centuries"

Throughout Jewish history, from biblical times to the present, non-Jews have joined the Jewish people. How they have done so has differed greatly from one historical context to another. Yet one idea endures: conversion, or giyyur, is more than adopting a religion; it is joining a people, as expressed in Ruth’s words, “your people shall be my people.” Drawing on manuscripts, rare books and other items from the Jewish Theological Seminary, this exhibit illustrates some of the changes and continuities over time in our understanding and practice of conversion to Judaism.
