We invite you to be a part of our first in-person showcase as we usher in our 5th annual Upsurge Dance Festival. Founded in the midst of the events of 2020, USDF began as a way to uplift, celebrate, nurture, and amplify the voices of black artists in dance. This year’s showcase will highlight 5 selected emerging and seasoned choreographers: Hanah Howell, Claude Johnson, Martez McKinzy, Makayla Peterson, and Damaris Williams. To complement this evening, we are thrilled to present and highlight a new work choreographed by our 2024 Wynn Mentorship awardee, Asmani Sanders assisted by the mentorship of Peter Chu. Closing out our show will be a special performance choreographed by our director, Joniece Boykins. Witness an outpour of diverse voices ranging from classical modern to the celebratory movement of afro fusion. Join us for our one night only choreographic showcase.
