Description
Experience something truly rare in the beautiful acoustics of Bethlehem Lutheran Church: the Valencia Baryton Project, an internationally touring classical trio devoted to reviving one of music history’s most fascinating and seldom-heard instruments—the baryton.
With 16 strings (six bowed on the front and ten plucked on the back like a harp), the baryton is an extraordinary instrument once championed by Joseph Haydn, who composed nearly 170 works for it. Today, only a handful of musicians in the world play the baryton, and the Valencia Baryton Project has become one of its leading ambassadors—bringing these luminous, rarely heard works back to life.
Founded in Valencia, Spain, the trio tours internationally, performing across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Latin America. Their programs pair seldom-heard music by Haydn with new commissions written especially for the ensemble—bridging classical tradition with fresh, contemporary voices.
This is a rare chance to hear a nearly forgotten instrument come alive in an intimate, acoustically stunning setting. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind classical experience in Grand Marais.
