Since travel isn’t a reality for most of us during this time, join the Metropolis Oboe Quartet for the trip of a lifetime during their concert, “We All Need a Vacation!” Our voyage starts in Austria with Mozart’s virtuosic yet playful Quartet in F Major. Other destinations include a tango in Argentina and an Italian oboe concerto. We then head to Israel for the world premier of Lee Kesselman’s “Hebrew Meditations” (written for the quartet during the pandemic quarantine). Our vacation ends with a train-ride through the English countryside and EJ Moeran’s Fantasy Quartet. Relax, have a glass of wine and come travel with us!

For almost two decades, the Metropolis Oboe Quartet (Deb Stevenson: oboe, Thomas Yang: violin, Rose Armbrust Griffin: viola and Steven Houser: cello) has been treating Chicagoland to stellar renditions of both famous masterpieces and lesser-known gems. No quartet concert experience is the same, with the close-knit group of musicians eager to share their extensive musical knowledge with audience members via playful conversations interspersed throughout the program. Classical music takes on a new life and meaning through these high energy performances filled with memorable melodies and lush harmonies that redefine chamber music for a new age.

Rendezvous Arts

Our Story

In the spring of 2020, a group of artists came together to discuss the new reality of performing arts during the COVID-19 pandemic—and how they could share the joys of music, art and more with people in a time when they needed it most. Our vision: people from every community directly connected to the arts, their lives enriched by personal interaction with artists, musicians, and each other.

Rendezvous Arts brings music, art and people together to encourage conversations and connections that contribute to people’s lives. We host social, interactive performances that create an atmosphere of one-on-one engagement at the intersection of music and art. In returning to the symphony orchestra’s more intimate roots—chamber music—we share our insights with audiences, giving them an artist’s perspective into what they hear and see. We firmly believe in “something for everyone,” so we strive to provide unique, diverse experiences that help individuals build lifelong relationships with the arts.
