MAC is dedicated to bringing you and the arts together
Mending has been part of society as long as humans have been using textiles. Patches and repairs can be found on the oldest existing garments (including headscarves found in King Tut’s tomb!) Today, in an era of easily accessible, mass-produced clothing, mending has become less of a day-to-day necessity— but it can still be an impactful means of sustainable living, self-expression, and community building.
Bring your ripped, stained, and holey textiles for an afternoon of repair using visible mending techniques. The workshop will include a tutorial on versatile darning technique and guidance on best practices and methods for mending all kinds of garments.
Materials will be provided, but in addition to items to mend, attendees are encouraged to bring any specific sewing materials such as thread, yarn, or patches they’d like to use or share. All skill levels are warmly welcomed to bring their projects, a friend, and a snack for an afternoon of mending!
