Concert begins at 7:30 pm

Musicians and poets are often visionaries, exploring the bounds of art, the depths of the human spirit, and challenging social ideas and ideals. These artists reflect on humanity’s strengths, vulnerabilities, and potential. We know this: Visionaries are world changers.

Music for YPCC’s Spring Cycle will celebrate those visionaries - from inspiring poets like Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes to inventive modern composers such as Mari Valverde, Jacob Naverud, and Andre J. Thomas. Pieces include new works lifting up the human spirit of perseverance as well as beloved traditional melodies like South African freedom song Tshotsholoza and settings of revered poems such as Invictus and I Celebrate Myself.

The highlight of the concert will be YPCC’s premier of a new work by emerging composer Joanna McDonald. McDonald explores Vachal Lindsay's poem, "The Broncho that Would Not Be Broken," a harrowing tale of the capture and submission of a wild horse. The chorus sings to piano and percussion accompaniment while Deaf ASL Interpreter Arriana Bedgood explores the inner turmoil of the animal, expressing its tension, rage, and unbridled wildness through sign language and dance. Visually stunning and engaging on a multitude of levels, this is a unique contribution to the choral landscape of Cincinnati.

A portrait gallery created by the artists of Visionaries and Voices will be available to peruse prior to and after the concert and wine and soda will be available to purchase.

All sales are final; no refunds will be issued.
