Dedicated to the continuation and preservation of jazz, America’s indigenous art form, Jazz Alive was created to bring this great music to audiences and students who have little to no opportunity to hear and learn from the genre’s great practitioners. Jazz Alive is committed to presenting concerts, school assemblies, master classes, and school residencies in underserved communities that may be off jazz touring routes, lack jazz presenters, or have little funding for jazz events.
Jazz Alive presents their 2022 Summer Concert Series at the historic Waterfowl Building located at 40 South Harrison Street in Easton, Maryland. Continuing the club-like setting of the 2021 series, concertgoers can reserve seats at tables set throughout the hall that offer great views of the stage while enjoying a beverage and lite snacks from a candlelit table.
The second concert of the Jazz Alive Summer Concert Series takes place on July 30, 2022 with Philadelphia-based vocalist Joanna Pascale, who insists that she cannot perform a song unless she can connect personally with its lyrics. But once she’s found that connection, there’s no one who can better convey the emotion of those words more directly and intimately than Pascale. A singer of sophisticated taste, profound expressiveness, and raw emotion, Pascale is also a gifted educator who is a member of the vocal faculty at both Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. She’s been featured on recordings by Jeremy Pelt, Tim Warfield, Orrin Evans, Larry McKenna, the Temple University Jazz Band, and Garry Dial and Dick Oatts. Pascale made her recording debut with 2004’s When Lights Are Low, followed by the 2008 CD Through My Eyes and a 2010 duo recording with pianist Anthony Wonsey. With the 2015 release of Wildflower, she revealed her most personal and diverse collection to date.
The Waterfowl Building is at 40 South Harrison Street in Easton, Maryland. Tickets are $48 and available at jazz-alive.org or at the door the day of the event. Students attend free with a Student ID. A cash bar will be available. Proceeds from ticket and concession sales support Jazz Alive’s mission of providing educational support in developing future artists and preserving this great art form through school and community programs.
