History buffs love this walking tour of Downtown Fayetteville that explores the history of Fayetteville from pre-colonial settlement to present day. Guided by experienced local history guides trained at the Fayetteville History Museum, you will learn of the history, culture, and architecture of the buildings along the tour path in Historic Downtown Fayetteville.  The past meets the present as you are introduced to 6 to 8 shops and restaurants where you may enjoy samples of  food*, drink and goods from these unique businesses. 

The tour covers under approximately 3/4 mile ending on Hay Street. 

After the tour, we hope you are ready to discover more of downtown Fayetteville as we provide each Tour Patron a Downtown swag bag full of coupons and flyers from area businesses.

Locals, you can enjoy this tour  an opportunity to discover new things about their wonderful city! This tour is an excellent way to entertain out-of-town guests, celebrate a special occasion, and expand your knowledge about the Downtown Fayetteville area.

We ask that all participants meet at the Front Door of the Fayetteville History Museum located at 325 Franklin Street by 1:45pm. We do recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. There are some uneven walking surfaces along our street sidewalk and walkways. Wheelchairs and strollers can be used on sidewalks all along the tour, however some buildings may not be always accessible. 

Bring a bottle of water and a thirst for knowledge!

** The food offered is the choice of the participating restaurants and shops. The offering cannot be modified for food preferences or allergens. If you are offered food or drink, it is up to you, the tour participant, to make yourself aware. Please ask whether what is offered contains allergens or non preferred food prior to eating.

Q. What if it is raining at the time the tour begins?

A. Tours run rain or shine. We ask that you check the weather forecast and dress accordingly if inclement weather is predicted.  Bring an accessible umbrella or rainwear. 

Q. Are there public bathrooms available?

A. Yes, public restrooms are available near the meeting location at the Fayetteville History Museum . There is also the possibility for a restroom stop at a location along the way.

We walk at a leisurely pace and stop frequently to discuss interesting points along the way. 

Q. What is the cancellation policy?

A. Tickets are non-refundable. You may reschedule your tour up to  24 hours before the beginning of the tour, if you provide cancellation notice to our email at shopdowntownfaync.com,, the tickets cost will  be transferred to a Downtown Tour gift card you will use to rebook your tour. 

Within 24 hours: We don’t extend rebooking options within 24 hours of the start time of the tour.

Q. Can children come on the tour?

A. Because of the tour content, length of time, and walking distance this tour is not recommended for children, but is up to the discretion of the adults accompanying the children. All attendees pay the general ticket price regardless of age..

Q.. May we take photographs?

A. Yes, we encourage you to take photos! We encourage you to share or “tag” us through social media! We are on Facebook and Instagram.

Q. Where do I park?

A. We ask that tour ticket holders park in the parking lot of the Fayetteville History Museum which is free. There is also limited 3 hour free street parking on Maxwell Street between Russell St and Franklin St. The Franklin Street Parking deck which is just one block away from the museum has paid parking of $1 an hour with the first hour free.

Q. How many people can be on the tour?

A. At this time, the maximum number is 16.  There are options for group rates and special interest tour content. Please contact us at shopdowntownfaync@gmail.com and put Private Group Tour request in the subject line.
